Little changes = BIG results!

You don’t have to make huge changes in your life in order to see a big difference.  If you “take steps to take steps,” you’ll find that even small changes can make a huge difference.

Here are my 7 top tips:

1. Meet your new BFF: Salsa! 

You can save 1,000 calories a week just by substituting salsa for mayonnaise, sour cream, and salad dressing. Salsa has absolutely no fat, lots of flavor, and very few calories.

Use it instead of mayo on sandwiches, in place of dressing on salads, and as a topping for baked potatoes instead of butter or sour cream.

Compare the calorie count for 2 tablespoons of each of these:

Mayonnaise:  180 calories
Ranch dressing:  200 calories
Salsa:  10-25 calories

2. Don’t use drive-thrus; instead, walk into the store or bank.

Add 150 steps to your day just by avoiding the bank drive-thru. Return those grocery carts to the store instead of leaving them in the parking lot. Walk into Starbucks instead of ordering from your car.

3. Pick 2 of your 5 workday lunches and exercise instead of sitting down.

Leave yourself 15 minutes to eat after you’ve exercised. I guarantee you’ll have more afternoon energy on those 2 days.

4. Don’t sit down when you talk on the phone.

Use a Bluetooth headset or cordless phone, and pace or clean while you’re talking, or do squats or lunges. Your house will stay clean and you'll stay in shape.

5. Take a walk. 

Resist the urge to plop on the couch after a big dinner.  Before you sit down to eat and after you finish, take a short walk—at least 20 minutes will do it. 

6. Shake and dance!

While you're preparing food, put on your favorite music and shake, dance, and move.  It adds more fun to your cooking and burns a lot more calories.

7. Work time doesn’t have to be sedentary.

Deliver papers instead of sending them through the interoffice mail. “Fidget” while you’re seated and actively squeeze your muscles.

The next time you have a lunch meeting, instead of sitting around a conference table, schedule a 20-minute walk as you talk. You’ll be amazed how much better you brainstorm when you’re moving. You’ll still have a few minutes to eat lunch afterward. Just bring some baby wipes and body splash to refresh before heading back to work.
